Culture in the West of England, means much more than just the arts. It is shaped by libraries, museums and festivals, music and beyond. Preserving these iconic moments through visuals is an abundance of creatives, photographers and videographers committed to capturing pivotal cultural moments for all to enjoy.

We recently invited creatives and arts & cultural organisations from across our region to submit photos that truly reflect the unique cultural identity of the West of England highlighting both perceptions and the realities of these areas.

Through this call to action, we have created a gallery of images that align with or challenge the key demographic and cultural characteristics of the region. Reflecting regional cultural identity through the lens of different communities and exploring the contrasts between how the region is perceived and its reality.

After being blown away by a plethora of submissions, 14 powerful images were shortlisted. These shortlisted images reflect both the perception and reality of our region, with a focus on cultural identity, diversity, and community dynamics. The selected images will be collated into an online gallery and shared across our online platforms.

The images in this gallery help us to shape a visual story that captures the complexity of cultural identity in the West of England.
